When does Doctor Who season 12 air?

The BBC aired a single episode of Doctor Who in 2019 after announcing it would only release a show for New Year’s Day.

However, bosses confirmed the programme would return in early 2020 for series 12, with the 13th Time Lord portrayed by Jodie Whittaker back again too.

Filming for the new season began on January 23, 2019, with the cast filming on location in South Africa.

An image of Jodie, Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill was shared on the official Doctor Who page at the time.

In 2018 the series aired on Sunday evenings instead of Saturday night, breaking with tradition.

It is unclear whether the new season will stick with the new format or return to Saturday nights or perhaps another day.

What will happen in Doctor Who season 12?

Season 11 of Doctor Who left fans of the show wanting more, as there were a number of unanswered questions.

For example who or what is the Timeless Child? And will viewers see more of Yaz as a police officer?

‘Resolution’, the New Year’s Day episode, saw the doctor defeat Daleks but the creature could return in the next series.

Teasing the forthcoming series, showrunner Chris Chibnall told Digital Spy: “Further hatred intensifying [between the Doctor and her enemy]… with more Daleks, probably!”
