Jack Whitehall is returning to host the 2020 Brits live on ITV with performances from Lewis Capaldi, Stormzy, Billie Eilish and Harry Styles
This year’s ceremony is being held on Tuesday 18 February at London’s O2 Arena, with all of the night’s performances and awards broadcast live on ITV.
The action kicks off at 8.00pm, lasting for two hours, with ITV2 bringing fans all the latest arrivals and gossip from the red carpet in an hour-long live show starting at 7.00pm – here’s everything else you need to know.
Who’s performing at the 2020 Brits?
The total number of awards this year has been cut down, which the organisers say will put the onus on “letting the artists fully take the reins” and deliver “memorable and showstopping moments”.
A host of high-profile nominees will be performing at the O2 including Capaldi, who’s up for four awards on the night.
His response after being announced as a performer was typically deadpan: “I wouldn’t miss performing at The BRITs, because usually when people perform, their album and single sales go way up the chart, so looking forward to that especially.”
The all-conquering Scottish songwriter will be joined by Billie Eilish – recently announced as the singer of the new Bond theme – and Stormzy, who won twice in 2018.
Also on the star-studded bill are the likes of Harry Styles, Mabel and this year’s Brits Rising Star winner Celeste.
Who is hosting the Brit Awards?
The comedian and actor Jack Whitehall has been selected as the Brit Awards host for the third year in succession.
“I’m delighted to be back hosting the Brits for a third time,” he said when his return was confirmed.
“I’m excited for another night of trying not to put my foot in it in front of the biggest names in the music industry.”
The 31-year-old later re-iterated the very real possibility of something going wrong: “No matter how much I try to tell myself to behave, I always end up putting my foot in it at the last minute.
“So I’m sure there will be a moment of madness.”
Full list of Brit Award nominations
Capaldi and the rapper Dave were both rewarded for stellar success in 2019 with four nominations apiece, both recognised in the British male solo artist, best new artist, album of the year and song of the year categories.
The female performer with the most nods is Mabel, who was nominated last year for British breakthrough act, and is shortlisted for best new artist, British female solo artist and best song this time around.
All of the winners are decided by the Brits’ 2020 Official Voting Academy, comprised of around 1,200 UK music industry experts including artists, agents, record labels and media.
