British Airways passengers can always take a small suitcase into the cabin with them for free.

Here is everything you need to know when flying with the British flag carrier.

British Airways hand luggage rules

When flying with BA, you can bring up to two bags with you into the cabin – so long as they don’t weigh more than 23kg each.

One should be a small handbag or laptop-sized bag, and no larger than 40cm x 30cm x 15cm.

The other bag can be a bit bigger, with a maximum size of 56cm x 45cm x 25cm.

This applies to even their most basic fares on both long and short haul flights.

British Airways checked baggage rules

British Airways passengers can check in up to ten bags, weighing no more than 23kg (for economy and premium economy) and 32kg (for business and first class), measuring no more than 90cm x 75cm x 43cm.

The weight cannot be split across all the bags, so each bag has to fit under the specified weight.

Prices start from £20 for the first bag (for hand baggage only tickets), and £60 for any additional bags, depending on the destination and departing airport.

Don’t go over the limit or you could be charged up to £65 per bag, per journey

You can also take sports equipment as part of your checked baggage allowance, as long as it is no more than 190cm x 75cm x 65cm.

Small musical instruments up to 80cm are allowed in the cabin, while instruments up to 140cms will need to be bought a seat in the cabin.<

Larger than this, and it has to go into the hold.
