Get ready to spend your evenings behind bars with the bad women of Wentworth!

Confrontation: At the end of season six Jake Stewart (Bernard Curry) found out that Governor Vera Bennett (Kate Atkinson) was pregnant with his child, but that she didn’t want him involved

‘Expect the unexpected’:

Robbie Magasiva, who plays Will Jackson on the show has said: ‘Wentworth never changes. It’s like you’re cruising along a highway and bang! You never expect it, but it hits you then takes a different direction. Hold on tight and expect the unexpected!’

New characters:

Last season actors Leah Purcell, Susie Porter and Rarriwuy Hick joined the cast as undercover cop Rita Connors, brothel owner Marie Winter and Rita’s sister Ruby Mitchell and there was plenty of drama from the outset. At the start of the new season both Marie and Rita have sentences hanging over their heads for crimes committed at the end of the last season.

As well as the promise of more drama from the three newest characters there are also more fresh faces to be revealed in the new season.

New faces: New characters will appear in Wentworth including a new psychologist

Kate Atkinson, who plays Governor Vera Bennett, has revealed: ‘There [will be] a new psychologist, and there are a couple of new characters who join later in the season. But in the beginning we pick up with our original characters and the great newbies.’

And speaking about her own character, who during the last season revealed that she was pregnant with colleague Jake Stewart (Bernard Curry)’s baby, she said: ‘Vera is in an interesting situation. [It’s a] few months down the track from the end of season six… what has happened to Rita and Marie at the end of season six, and how that impacts on us, [is] kind of the launching pad for season seven.

What about the baby? The new season begins several months after the last season ended and Governor Vera is now heavily pregnant

Old mistakes will come back to haunt you:

Although it looks like Jake and Will are in the clear for their past crimes, a date for Channing’s trial will leave Will spooked and it seems he’s keen to distance himself from the prison.

Will his involvement in The Freak being buried alive come to light?

Ruby was involved in Marie’s son’s death but Marie is yet to find out exactly what happened that night. Will the truth be revealed?

Waiting game: Allie is seen anticipating the return of her love interest Marie Winter (Susie Porter)

Revenge is still top of the agenda

Marie returns to general population with a big sentence and very little to lose.

She’s still desperate to get to the bottom of what happened to her son Danny but what lengths will she go to in order to find out the truth?

Her vendetta with Kaz Proctor (Tammy MacIntosh) is set to intensify but will either woman back down?

Who will be top dog? The battle for dominance between the inmates will continue

Chaos will ensue:

Rita had planned for Ruby Mitchell to be transferred to another prison but that idea fell apart at the end of season six. Now Ruby is extremely vulnerable, especially when Marie returns to general population searching for answers.

Rarriwuy Hick, who plays Ruby, said: ‘[Ruby is] a survivor and a very strong woman. [But in season seven] things start to really spiral out of control for her.’

Will the truth prevail?:

Undercover: In the last episode of the show Rita revealed she was an undercover cop but she’s been cut off from the police staff – will her true identity be revealed to all of the inmates?

Rita finds herself in a perilous position when she’s cut off from the police staff she was working with and to make matters worse her file has been deleted.

Will she be able to convince the right people that she really is an undercover cop or is she facing serious time behind bars at Wentworth?

What if more of the inmates find out her real identity? How will that play out?

You’ll get goosebumps:

Curve ball: Katrina Milosevic, who plays Sue ‘Boomer’ Jenkins has described the new season as ‘ a game changer’
