What to do in London this weekend – from drag workshops to a free roving bar

George Clooney’s new hidden bar is calling… (Picture: Metro.co.uk)

You know that saying — when you’re tired of London, you’re tired of life?

Well, whoever said that knew what they were talking about. For real.

Seriously, look at the stuff we have on in just one week: learning to be a drag queen, painting in Hyde Park, getting skateboarding lessons on The Strand, and laughing ourselves silly while doing circuits.

Oh, and of course, sampling moody martinis, having someone put on a house party round ours… or enjoying one round Clooney’s new joint, not to mention treating our workout like a night out

Don’t know about tired of life, but we’re definitely going to be tired after that little lot!

Who’s the fairest of them all? You!

Drag us up! (Picture: Drag Queen Workshop)

Admit it, you’ve sat there watching RuPaul’s Drag Race and felt your creative juices stirring.

You’ve thought to yourself, ‘I bet I could do that… and look even prettier!’ Well, now’s your chance to prove it.

As part of a raft of activities around what was to have been the rescheduled Pride celebrations next week, Andaz — that smart hotel by Liverpool Street Station — is still running the ultimate Drag Queen Workshop, where you get to work on your make-up look, try on some wigs and outfits, and generally fierce-it-up under the watchful eye of the UK’s queen of live vocal drag Velma Celli in the grand surroundings of their iconic 1901 ballroom — and it’s free.

We’ll be up the front!

Zapp up some free drinks

We love finding new ways to enjoy a drink, especially if some of those drinks are free!

Thanks to Zapp, a brand new on-demand convenience thing (meaning they deliver drinks and hundreds of other snacks and essentials to your door, God bless them), you can simply track down and visit their roving Zappy Hour Bar, which will pitch up across London doling out free drinks to us thirsty people.

Even better, you could win a home visit from said bar, complete with its own mixologist and free drinks.

And if you’re really lucky, you could win a full-scale house party round yours with DJ, bartender, cocktails and snacks — all just by downloading an app and adding the ‘House Party’ item to any order of £20.

The very least you get is £10 off your first £20 spend, which is a great start, right?

Laugh yourself fit

Get sweaty (Picture: Harry Adams)

We’ve heard of gym classes to live DJs and to particular types of music (we once went to Vogue-a — Madonna-themed yoga, of course!), but we’ve never heard of working out to comedy — until now!

Gymbox, who never rest when it comes to finding new ways to make us sweat, have taken the fact that laughter burns off 50 calories every ten minutes and run with it — or, more accurately, created a workout with it.

Called Sunday Roast, you get into a Bacofoil-style sauna suit — really! — and get roasted, both verbally and physically, for 45 minutes of burning off those Saturday night calories and getting the P ripped out of you by 99 Comedy Club MC Tom Webb. Hot stuff!

Sundays in September, 42-49 St Martin’s Lane, WC2

George Clooney invites you to attend…

Mr Clooney approves… (Picture: Percy’s)

Fancy a big night out with the added bonus of the possibility of running into George Clooney? Well, we have the spot for you.

It’s called Percy’s, it’s a new late-night drinking/dining/dancing den and it hosts the first Casamigos bar outside of America.

And Casamigos, as we’re sure you know, is the tequila brand founded by the Hollywood big hitter, so he’s bound to want to check it out when he’s over, right?

But even if ol’ George isn’t there in person, the vibe of this place is like you’ve been invited back to someone’s fantastic house party, where the music is cool, the drinks free-flowing and the food provided by the people behind Mac & Wild… and if you stay long enough they’ll throw open that hidden Casamigos bar.

Book now, it’s going to be our new favourite hangout!

Opens September 30, 2a Kensington High Street, W8

Airwalk this way

Grab your board and go (Picture: Skate The Strand)

Seeing as we’ve all gone skateboarding mad since Sky Brown won the gold at the Olympics, it’s perfect timing that super-cool skatewear brand Vans have teamed up with Westminster city council’s Inside Out festival for an event that will see one of London’s most glittering thoroughfares become a giant pop-up skatepark, built by legendary skatepark designers Betongpark no less.

Skate The Strand sees The Strand — specifically the bit outside Somerset House where there’s already a skate culture exhibition on — turned into somewhere you can learn (for free!), practice, watch pro demos or just hang out — in your Vans, natch — feeling part of it all. Totally gnarly!

Benchpress to the best beats

Work out while you groove (Picture: Haydon Perrior)

How about a gym where it’s not all about grunting guys, smelly sportswear and showers that could do with a hose down?

Somewhere, instead, where you can enjoy decent music, fashion, street art, neon, design and, OK, if you really have to, get a workout? Sounds good?

Then head in the direction of Liverpool Street, where John Reed are opening their first UK gym, which is basically a fitness-based members’ club infused with hip hop, pop and electro, courtesy of a line-up of DJs.

With the ethos that life is too short for boring gyms, you even get an app pumping out tunes for solo workouts or group sessions. So top tunes and top-of-the-line tech and equipment — you’ll be toned in no time!

Opens September 20, 90 Liverpool Street, EC2

A martini whatever your mood

Shaken or stirred, it’s up to you (Picture: Jolly DT)

We’ve recently found that the martini is the ideal conduit to a great night out: no sugary mixers, no full, gassy belly, no endless trips to the bathroom to unload the litres you’ve been taking onboard.

Just to-the-point tasty tipples for sophisticated drinkers. And now, thanks to Beluga vodka, you can match your martini to your mood (our mood is usually just thirsty).

Recruiting some of the best bars in the capital — The Coburg at The Connaught, The Bar at The Dorchester, Eve Bar by Adam Handling and 10° Sky Bar at Galvin at Windows — Beluga have come up with a range of twists on the classic martini, by adding Manchego cheese, say, or sturgeon smoked butter.

Think of it as the classiest bar crawl you’ll ever go on.

Are you of a creative Bent?

Find your inner talent (Picture: ClassBento)

Now that ‘back to school’ feeling is in the air — not that we go to school, you understand — we seem to have a yen for learning something new. Something to keep our brains as sharp as those big nights out will allow.

And that’s why we’re all about ClassBento, a ‘curated marketplace’ — ooh, get them! — offering more than 2,000 experiences put on by local artisans and creatives. We might learn to paint outdoors in Hyde Park.

Or make proper Chinese dim sum from scratch. Or maybe throw a pot (as in make, not just chuck) in Columbia Road. Or make our own flower crown!

A whole world is opening out before us. Wonder what we’re good at?
