Tempers flared in the final few minutes of City’s game against Tottenham with Aguero and Guardiola involved in a heated exchange after the striker was substituted.
The Argentine had found the net for the second Premier League game running, but was brought off for Jesus with over 25 minutes remaining.
But in the final minutes Guardiola’s substitution looked to have paid off when Jesus buried a shot from inside the box into the far corner in stoppage time.
The City players ran to celebrate with Jesus, but most notably was the reaction from the home team’s bench.
Clearly feeling apologetic, Aguero got up off the bench to embrace Guardiola in what appeared to suggest he was regretting how he reacted early on.
However, City’s celebrations were cut short when Martin Oliver pointed for a Tottenham free-kick after consulting with VAR.
Replays showed that Aymeric Laporte’s touch on to Jesus came off his left arm, with VAR ruling out Jesus’ goal.
That was City’s last chance to win the game as Tottenham held on for a point.
Guardiola’s side were similarly denied a win over Tottenham last year in the Champions League due to VAR.
City got off to a flying start against Tottenham at home when Raheem Sterling put them ahead with a deft header from close range.
Erik Lamela drew Spurs level after catching Ederson out of position only for Aguero to regain City’s lead 10 minutes before the break.
Tottenham had barely challenged City’s goal, with Harry Kane not registering a single shot.
But the introduction of Lucas Moura quickly proved a masterstroke as he scored instantly after entering the pitch.
The drama between Guardiola and Aguero soon followed on the City bench after the striker was taken off for Jesus.
After Jesus’ goal was ruled out in stoppage time and Martin Oliver blew the final whistle, Guardiola made his way over to the referee.
The City boss shook the official’s hand, but it was clear he wasn’t pleased with the result of the VAR.
