What is the big deal with Coachella?
The big deal with Coachella is that it is possibly one of the most “Instagrammable” events of the year.
Oh and it features performances from some of music’s biggest stars including Oasis, Jay Z, Lady Gaga, Kanye West and Red Hot Chilli Peppers who have all taken to the stage in the past.
And who can forget Beyoncé’s epic set in 2018?
The festival is attended by some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry.

And regular joes mix with the likes of A-listers who can be spotted mingling in the crowds.
The annual event gets a lot of media exposure and is treated by some as a red carpet.
The bold fashion choices gets as much – if not more- attention than the performances themselves, with many opting for brightly coloured and avant-garde styles.
Though the partiality of the festival-goers to Native American inspired headdresses and body paint has prompted backlash and accusations of cultural appropriation.
Coachella is considered a place where the fashion and music trends are set for the upcoming year.
Katy Perry said: “The lineup always introduces the best of the year for the rest of the year.”

What is the history of the festival?
It is considered by most as the first Indie musical festival in the world.
And it first came about after Pearl Jam threw a concert at the Indio Empire Polo Club to 25,000 fans in 1993.
The festival first took place on October 9-10, 1999, with Beck, The Chemical Brothers, Tool, Morrissey and Rage Against the Machine headlining.
The intention was for the festival to replicate European style festivals with smaller crowds.
And the creators looked to get acts based on their musical artistry as opposed to commercial and radio popularity.
Because of this it earned the name “the anti-Woodstock”.
The festival was cancelled in 2000 but returned in 2001 and has pretty much been in full swing annually since then.
But the timing of the event was moved from October to April to avoid the extreme desert heat and has continued to take place at this time.
With the format established the festival has gone on to draw in some of the biggest performers of the day as well as huge crowds of thousands.
Icons such as Madonna, Kanye West, Beyonce and Paul McCartney have taken to the stage in the desert to perform for the music-revellers.
And in a first, even a dead artist performed when a hologram of the late Tupac was projected on to the stage in 2012.
To this day thousands of fans choose to camp on the Polo Grounds during the weekend, though there is a more luxurious yurt for those who want to “glamp” at The Resort.
Where is Coachella 2019?
The annual music event is held in the Coachella Valley in the Riverside County city of Indio, near Palm Springs California.
It’s technically a metropolitan area of LA, although the desert landscape certainly makes it seem baron.
The event has five different music stages, a giant food hall and a huge camping area with its own showers, wifi, toilets, stores, phone charging stations and more.
Around 500,000 people attend the festival every year.

Which celebrities will attend Coachella 2019?
We’ve listed the 2019 festival’s musical line-up below, but those who didn’t manage to get tickets will be just as excited about the celebrities in attendance.
Every year a host of notable faces share social media posts from the event and the many parties held by brands in connection with it.
In 2018 Hailey Baldwin, Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner, Bella Hadid and Brooklyn Beckham were among the stars pictured enjoying the atmosphere.
This year it’s expected that the Jenner sisters will return again, along with models such as Emily Ratajkowski and Gigi Hadid.

Who’s headlining Coachella 2019?
Childish Gambino (Friday), Tame Impala (Saturday) and Ariana Grande (Sunday) are the main headliners for this year’s festival.
And Kanye West has just confirmed that he’ll be bringing his Sunday Service to Coachella at sunrise on the second Sunday, April 21.
