It’s Christmas, and as per usual the TV schedules are filled to the brim with movies both old and new, some making their TV debut and some which have become a staple of festive viewing.

There’s no shortage of movie premieres over the holiday season, between the likes of Elf, Love Actually and Home Alone taking their regular place in the Christmas schedules – effectively meaning you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to movies.

But what can you look forward to on Christmas Eve?

Here’s what’s on in the run-up to the big day…

What films are on TV on Christmas Eve?

Here are just a few of the treats you can look forward to on Christmas Eve…

Frozen

With Frozen 2 breaking box office records, here’s another chance to catch the original movie, with Princess Anna going in search of her sister Elsa, whose powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in an eternal winter. Just to clarify, this is the one which features Let it Go (so you’d better be prepared to sing along).

BBC One, 3pm

Beauty and the Beast

The live-action version of Disney’s animated classic gets its network TV premiere, with Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as the Beast. If you’re familiar with the original you’ll recognise this too as it’s almost identical to its animated counterpart (give or take a couple of songs) – and it’s perfect Christmas Eve viewing.

BBC One, 5.30pm

Elf

Would it be Christmas without Elf? Probably not – and you may well have already seen the Will Ferrell festive favourite this year since it’s been re-issued at cinemas and already been shown on ITV. It’s on again on Christmas Eve though, so if you have somehow managed to miss it this year now’s your chance to catch up.

ITV, 5.15pm

Home Alone

Another film that’s become a veritable staple of the festive season, with Macaulay Culkin as eight-year-old Kevin McAllister – whose family head off on holiday and accidentally leave him behind, leaving him to defend the house when a pair of burglars try to invade. It made a ton of money on release and it wouldn’t really be Christmas without this on TV.

Channel 4, 5.30pm

My Fair Lady

One of the best movie musicals of all time is getting another TV outing on Christmas Eve, courtesy of Channel 5. Audrey Hepburn takes the lead as Eliza Doolittle, the flower girl who becomes protegee to Professor Henry Higgins (Rex Harrison), who’s determined to pass her off as a society lady. Featuring so many classic songs we defy you not to sing along.

Channel 5, 4.05pm

Bumblebee

Fancy a bit of Transformers for Christmas? Consider it done, with Hailee Steinfeld taking the lead in this 80s set origin story. It was released in the cinema last Christmas but if you missed it then, now’s your chance to play catch-up.

Sky Premiere, 6pm

Lego Movie 2: The Second Part

The sequel to The Lego Movie reunites us with Emmet (Chris Pratt) returning to this time try and save his friends from the Systar System and a coming disaster known as Armamageddon. Basically everything is awesome. Again.

Sky Cinema, 8pm
