What Does The EPL Table Look Like One Month in?

The English Premier League is one of the most exciting leagues in world football. This has certainly been true since it kicked off its latest season at the beginning of August 2019. Already, there have been some thrilling matches, dramatic moments and plenty of goals. As the Premier League looks to get back into action after an international break, it is the ideal time to look at the table and see how it is shaping up.

Keeping up with the current standings or latest reports, whether football, cricket or tennis news at Sportsbet.io, is a great way to see how things are looking in any given sport. By glancing at the EPL table now, you can see if things are panning out as expected.

Business as usual for the top teams

Last year, the Premier League was dominated by Manchester City and Liverpool. From looking at the table one month in, it seems that this season may follow a similar pattern. What is slightly different this time though is that it is Liverpool rather than City who have been simply unplayable. The Reds have played four and won four, including a fine 3-1 home win against Arsenal and an away thrashing of Burnley.

They look to be in fine form again and particularly lethal in front of goal, with Sadio Mané, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino all on fire. While not quite as dominant, Manchester City has won three out of their four games to sit in second. The one blot on their copybook was a draw to Tottenham, but they are sure to bounce back to mount a challenge for the title again.

Any surprises to take the eye?

Although the table always looks a little different so early in the season, there are a few teams who catch the eye for either good or bad reasons. Crystal Palace currently sits in fourth place with seven points after a solid start. This position will be a surprise to many who would not have expected them to be riding so high. The other teams who catch the eye for less-pleasing reasons are Chelsea and Manchester United.

Chelsea sit in 11th and have had a mixed start under new manager Frank Lampard. This included an opening-day thrashing from United and a less-than-inspiring draw against Sheffield United at home. Lampard needs to galvanise his young team fast to get them moving in the direction that Chelsea fans will demand. At Manchester United, Ole Gunnar Solskjær is in similar trouble, though they are slightly higher up the table. Solskjær looks to have major work to do on the squad at Old Trafford still if they are to move in the right direction.

Can the bottom teams improve?

Moving down into the relegation places, it is no surprise to see two of the three places occupied by newly promoted teams. With Watford hopefully looking to get better under a new manager, Aston Villa and Norwich must start to win games if they are not to become too isolated too early. Whatever happens, it is sure to be an exciting ride, and looking at the table now may give us some idea of how things will look come next May.
