What Brendan Rodgers said when asked if he is worried about James Maddison joining Man Utd

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers insists he’s not worried about Manchester United’s reported pursuit of James Maddison.

In recent weeks, it’s been claimed the Red Devils are keen on signing the England under-21 international, who was one of Leicester’s star players last season.

According to reports, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a big admirer of the winger and is contemplating testing Leicester’s resolve to retain his services in the January transfer window.

United were successful in their pursuit of former Foxes ace Harry Maguire in the summer, signing the centre-back for a world-record fee of £80million.

However, talk of the Old Trafford club swooping for Maddison isn’t bothering Rodgers at all.

“I don’t worry,” said the Northern Irishman when asked about Manchester United’s reported interest in Maddison. “It’s natural in the game, it’s going to happen.

“If you’re at one of the so-called top clubs, you’ll always look elsewhere for the best players, and when you’re a club like Leicester you’ll always be in danger of losing your top players. That’s football.

“All we can do is create an environment here for them to develop and improve and then if something happens in the future that’s out of your control, then that’s the way it works.

“I tend not to worry so much, I just focus on making them the best they can be and if they then move on, that’s how it works.

“But when they’re here, they give their best, give everything to the supporters and the club, and we’ll see where it takes us.”

Leicester will next be in action on Saturday afternoon (12.30pm), welcoming Tottenham to the King Power Stadium.

United, meanwhile, will face FC Astana at Old Trafford on Thursday evening (8.00pm) in their first Europa League group game of the season.
