Who is Duncan Lawrence?

Duncan grew up in the Netherlands but despite his love for music, it was not part of his education.

He revealed: “I grew up in a town where music was a stranger. Music had no part in the regular school system. But that couldn’t keep me from making music. Somehow I was drawn to its magical ways to express myself and tell my own story. We had a small local theatre and an old music school. I played the piano every single day, wrote my own songs and poems. I remember that time as if it was yesterday. I was certain: I was going to be a musician.”

After winning a local talent show when he was 16, Duncan recorded his first demo – which inspired him to take his music more seriously.

He went on to enrol in the Rock Academy – and became a professional musician.

He added: “I was deeply impressed by my peers, my age or even younger, who were making music at a very high level. I learned that you can appeal to a big audience, without losing track of your personal story or your integrity.”

Duncan went on to become a song writer and has penned many tracks – however, his favourite to date is Arcade, despite it not being his most recent.

He explained: “Since Arcade I’ve written many songs, but somehow Arcade feels like the centre of all of them. It started my journey to wanting to write songs that can really mean something to people. My career thus far has mainly been behind the scenes writing for other artists and defining my own sound. It feels good to now step into the light and share my story. I want to reach out to people with my music, possibly even help them.”

What are the lyrics to Tamara Todevska’s song Proud?

A broken heart is all that’s left

I’m still fixing all the cracks

Lost a couple of pieces when I carried it carried it carried it home

I’m afraid of all I am

My mind feels like a foreign land

Silence ringing inside my head

Please carry me carry me carry me home

I’ve spent all of the love I saved

We were always a losing game

Small town boy in a big arcade I got addicted to a losing game

Oh, oh oh oh Oh oh oh oh oh

All I know, all I know

Loving you is a losing game

How many pennies in the slot

Giving us up didn’t take a lot

I saw the end ‘for it begun

Still I carried I carried, I carry on

Oh, oh oh oh Oh oh oh oh oh

All I know, all I know

Loving you is a losing game

Oh, oh oh oh Oh oh oh oh oh

All I know, all I know

Loving you is a losing game

I don’t need your games, game over

Get me off this rollercoaster

Oh, oh oh oh Oh oh oh oh oh

All I know, all I know L

oving you is a losing game

Oh, oh oh oh Oh oh oh oh oh

All I know, all I know

Loving you is a losing game

What does the song mean?

Opening up about the song, Duncan said: “Arcade is a word of advice to myself and who knows.

“Maybe it helps someone, somewhere… I truly hope so.”
