Jack Wilshere has hailed Arsenal duo Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka and claims Mikel Arteta is ‘building something special’ at the Emirates.

The 29-year-old, who signed a short-term deal with Bournemouth this week, was asked about his former club in a Q&A on Twitter.

Wilshere spent almost two decades at Arsenal – first as an academy star and then a first-team regular – winning two FA Cups under legendary manager Arsene Wenger.

The Gunners have struggled since Wenger left in 2018 but Wilshere believes Arteta is ‘building something special’ with his young and exciting squad.

Arsenal have recovered from a dismal start to the season to win five of their last six matches and climb to tenth in the Premier League.

Wilshere has been particularly impressed by Saka – who he described as Arsenal’s ‘best player’ at this moment in time – and Smith Rowe, who he says is a ‘top player’.

Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn has also recently hailed Smith Rowe, who has quickly emerged as a key player for the Gunners this season.

‘His performances are getting stronger and stronger,’ Winterburn told Bookmakers.co.uk.

‘He’s a player who offers something slightly different to what Arsenal already have in the team at the moment. So I’m just hoping that his confidence is going to keep building and building.

‘Obviously, he’s going to have little dips on the way but if he can keep that level of performance going then eventually that will essentially say to the manager “leave me out if you dare”.

‘And that’s exactly what he’s done. He has to be selected at the moment, he cannot be left out.

‘All you can do as a player is put the performances in and give the manager no choice. That’s what Saka has done and that’s what Rowe is now doing.’
