Wetherspoons customers’ fury as Monday Club cheap drink-deal axed before Christmas

WETHERSPOONS customers were angry to discover that the drinks giant has axed its popular Monday Club promotion in the run up to Christmas.

The pub chain has stopped the deal – which offers customers discounted drinks prices every Monday – for the three weeks leading up to December 25.

One drinker was furious when he was charged £7.60 for two pints of Foster’s lager at the Waterhouse pub in Manchester city centre last Monday, the Mirror reports.

Usually he would pay around £5 through the deal.

He told the Mirror: “So much for the season of goodwill. Tim Martin seems to think it is good business practice to increase prices for customers at Christmas.

“Given his vocal support for Brexit and his recent boasts about creating 10,000 new jobs I think customers should be reminded of his business strategy.”

But Wetherspoons has said that it always reduces prices at this time of year and that all the deals will be back in the New Year on January 6.

And the pub also alerts customers to the three-week break on all its promotional posters.

Eddie Gershon, spokesman for Wetherspoons confirmed to The Sun: “The Monday Club is available throughout the year, apart from three weeks in the lead up to Xmas.

“We appreciate that customers will be disappointed that the Monday Club and its prices is not available at this time.

“However, we believe our prices are great value throughout the year and we also have a January sale across our pubs from the start of the year.”

The chain is also reducing the price of its hotel rooms during the January-sale period, with all rooms priced from £49 from January 2 to January 17.

Earlier this week, Wetherspoons revealed that it was battling with a temporary shortage of pigs in blankets.

The chain said it had been having issues with its meat supplier.

Pubs had warned customers about the issue using posters that read:”Owing to a supplier issue, our pigs in blankets will be without their blankets.”

But the blip was temporary and Wetherspoons are now back to serving pigs in blankets as usual.
