West Ham fan spends two years reuniting families with memorial bricks from the club’s former Upton Park ground

A WEST Ham supporter has spent two years reuniting families with memorial bricks from the club’s former Upton Park ground.

Jonjo Heuerman, 17, collected them from the rubble of two walls demolished at the East London site in 2017.

Each brick carried the name of a fan who has supported the Hammers — whose famous chant is: “I’m forever blowing bubbles.”

Jonjo said: “It seemed such a waste of tributes that had meant so much to so many people.”

The bricks were first stored at the supporters club then moved to the home Jonjo shares with his parents in Dartford, Kent.

He posts snaps of each brick on a Facebook group and invites loved ones to get in touch.

So far 500 out of 1,000 saved have been returned. Jonjo added: “The most amazing part is hearing the stories behind each one. It makes it all worthwhile.

“One lady had lost her eight-year-old grandson in a car accident. The family had a brick placed 20 years ago and she said it was like she had been given a piece of him back.

“It showed these bricks might seem like nothing to someone but everything to someone else.”
