Wendy Williams has been met with fierce backlash after she seemingly joked about Drew Carey’s ex-fiancee Amie Harwick’s death on her chat show on Monday.
Amie was killed over the weekend after an alleged attack from her ex-boyfriend, having been found on the ground beneath a third-story balcony, and the presenter discussed the horrific event on her programme.
Launching into her Hot Topic segment, Wendy told viewers that she was ‘killed not by Drew’ and then proceeded to say Drew’s The Price Is Right catchphrase: ‘Come on down!’
She then tilted her head from looking up to down to the floor, appearing to reference Amie’s fall, which was met with gasps from the studio.
Audiences at home weren’t impressed by Wendy’s actions either and slammed her on social media, with one person writing: ‘I KNOW #WendyWilliams did NOT just make a “come on down” joke about Drew Carey’s ex-fiancee getting killed by being thrown off of a third-floor balcony !!!!
‘Somebody tell me I heard that wrong, please..but the audience is stone-cold quiet..’ [sic]
Echoing a similar sentiment, another added: ‘ Come on down? Real classy. Someone’s daughter was killed. Not funny. Owe family an apology.’
Wendy’s actions come just days after she cried during an apology video for saying gay men should ‘stop wearing our skirts and heels’.
‘I’ll start by saying I apologise,’ she said in a video posted on her Twitter account. ‘I did not mean to offend my LGBTQ+ community on yesterday’s show.
‘I understand my platform with the community from first grade to intermediate school to high school to college to radio and now to TV. I didn’t mean to hurt anybody’s feelings.’
Last month, Wendy issued another apology after mocking Joaquin Phoenix’s cleft lip after she was called out for pulling up her lip to mimic him.
