Well Ed Sheeran’s hiatus lasted all of 2 minutes as he performs surprise song with Khalid

Well hello, Ed (Picture: Metro.co.uk)

It seems Ed Sheeran just can’t keep himself off that darn stage after he appeared at the O2 alongside Khalid on Tuesday night.

The superstar recently revealed he was going to take 18 months off touring, after wrapping up his mammoth Divide world tour.

That lasted all of two minutes after he joined the singer onstage to sing their collaboration Beautiful People.

Cheers erupted in the arena when the crooner waltzed out onstage. He didn’t waste anytime with chit chat as he launched straight into his verse – with the backing screams of the thousands of fans drowning out the dulcet tones.

Social media was awash with stunned punters who had no idea they had such a surprise in store when they headed out to the gig in London this week.

One very, very, perhaps too excited punter wrote on Twitter: ‘KHALID BOUGHT OUT ED SHEERAN AND DID BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE I’M DEAD I’M DEAD.’

Another had seemingly lost their bearings, as they added: ‘As if  @edsheeran just joined  @thegreatkhalid on stage to perform Beautiful People omfg I’m GONE.’

Please come back.

It comes after Ed, who yesterday was forced to defend himself in the face of Wiley’s ‘culture vulture’ claims, announced he was taking time off the road.

Last month the Shape Of You singer recently wrapped his worldwide tour, which featured a whopping 250 shows spanning over two years, and announced he would be taking a break from touring for the next 18 months.

Not long after the announcement his manager Stuart Camp revealed he doesn’t think Ed will waste time in having kids, as he is not one for sitting still for long.

‘He won’t sit still for long. He’s not the holiday sort. But things may change – he could have a young family relatively soon,’ Stuart told Music Week in August.

Ed – who is married to Cherry Seaborn – made the announcement of his break when he performed his final show of the tour in Chantry Park, Ipswich.

Speaking on stage, he said: ‘As you may or not know, I’ve been on the Divide tour for over two years now and this is the last day of the whole thing.

‘There is something very bittersweet about it. I love that you guys are here and we are ending it in Ipswich. This is my last gig for probably 18 months.’

He added: ‘We’ve played all around the world. Glastonbury, Wembley Stadium. All these amazing venues, America, New Zealand, Australia, Asia, South America – it’s been a wild one.

‘It’s been an emotional day for a lot of people backstage. It kind of feels like, in a weird way, that you’re breaking up with a girlfriend that you’ve been with for years. It sounds odd but it has been a long tour.

‘This is a Framlingham Town football shirt. I am from Framlingham. Suffolk is my home. I am so happy to be ending this mammoth tour here.

‘I want to say thank you to everyone on this tour. Thank you to everyone who has given me a chance.

‘This is my last song. I wrote this when I was 15 years old. See you in a few years time. Thank you.’
