Weki Meki member Choi Yoo Jung cancels all performances and promotion ‘due to health issues’

Weki Meki member Choi Yoo Jung will be taking a break from all upcoming performances and promotion due to health concerns.

The news was confirmed by her record label Fantagio Music, although it is though the remaining seven girls – Ji Su-yeon, Elly, Kim Do-yeon, Sei, Lua, Rina, and Lucy – will be continuing.

Choi Yoo Jung, formerly of I.O.I and known to fans of Yoojung, ‘will be halting activities for a while due to health issues,’ the label shared with fans in a statement.

‘For the time being, Choi Yoo Jung will be absent from all scheduled activities and focusing on sufficient rest and recovering from her condition.’

Fantagio Music did not reveal any further information.

The 19-year-old found fame at the age of 16 after coming third in the 2016 survival program Produce 101.

She became a member of I.O.1 but when the band was disbanded she debuted in 2017 with Weki Meki.

Weki Meki, known as WeMe, sold over 50,000 copies of their debut album WEME and released their second extended play titled Lucky on 21 February 2018 containing a total of six songs.

Lead single Butterfly – a remake of an original soundtrack from the 2009 sports film Take Off – was released in support of the 2018 Winter Olympics.

In September she took part in South Korean survival program show, V-1, which aimed to select what they called a Vocal Queen among the various K-Pop girl group members.

However, Yoojung was eliminated in the first episode, after losing out to bandmate Suyeon.
