GameCentral readers name the next gen games they’re most hoping for, from GTA 6 to a new Deus Ex.
The subject for this week’s Hot Topic was suggested by reader Grackle, who asked what franchises are you most looking forward to in the next gen? Not so much games that have already been announced but series that are all but guaranteed to get a next gen makeover.
Since so few games have been confirmed for the next generation there were plenty of obvious choices, from GTA 6 to The Elder Scrolls, as well as upcoming unveils like Batman and the rumoured Final Fantasy 16.
Distant hopes
I don’t want to be too obvious but I am dying to know what is going to happen with GTA 6 in the next gen, assuming anything happens a tall. Upgrading GTA 5 yet again makes it sound like we are nowhere close to getting an actually new game, which I think is a real shame.
The rumours say it is underway though so I’m hoping it will be announced in maybe a year or two after GTA 5 is re-released. All the major figures behind the previous games leaving is a bit of a problem but I wonder if that means the rule about it always being set in the US might finally be lifted?
I think Dan Houser, who left, is also the one who said he wouldn’t cover Trump, because he was beyond parody? I think a post-Trump GTA would be amazing and could work really well but at the moment that’s just wishful thinking until they admit they’re even making it!

It’s got to be Elden Ring for me. A game we know so little about it may as well not be announced. If it’s a Dark Souls style game though that’s good enough for me, as seeing how that style of game will evolve in the next gen is what I’m most interested in.
I’m also excited about Demon’s Souls, as I never played that game originally and as I understand it, it ran really badly on the PlayStation 3. So that’s an instabuy for me and means I will get at least two Dark Souls style game for the next gen pretty early on (hopefully).
I’d also really like to see a new Bloodborne on PlayStation 5 but I haven’t seen any hint of it so far. I’m happy for the Dark Souls series to now be complete but I would love another Bloodborne as that is my favourite of them all.

The unknown knight
I’m very curious to see what the new Batman game is going to be like, especially after this incredibly long wait and what sounds like multiple cancelled games. If it just turns out to be Arkham Knight with better graphic and no tanks I am going to be majorly disappointed.
It sounds like they’re building up to something with multiple playable characters, like Robin and Batgirl, which is fine but we already had a bit of that before so I’m not sure that’s a big enough gimmick for the whole game.
I’d love to see the Batmobile in the game but used as a car and not a tank, with a much bigger game world but I’m not sure if that’s going to be that sort of game – GTA with superheroes. I’m not sure what it’s going to be at all really, which is kind of exciting but also very easy to lead to disappointment.

The power of the next gen
Not a franchise as such but I’m looking forward to seeing what Star Wars games EA will be able to make in the future. Fallen Order turned out a lot better than I was expecting and I assume a sequel is pretty much guaranteed. Star Wars: Squadrons also looks very good and if it’s not dumbed down, as I would expect of a game like that in the modern market, then I will be very impressed.
I’m hoping that next gen they’ll be able to make a much wider variety of genres in terms of games (strategy, squad-based combat, Telltale style adventures, etc.) but also a wider range of settings for Star Wars (Jedi, military, bounty hunters, smugglers, etc.).
There’s so much to do and they’ve barely scratched the surface, not to mention the super obvious idea of doing a Mandalorian game.

Call me a fool but I keep hoping for a new Castlevania and I’d like to think all the rumours about Konami working on a new next gen one are true. I don’t get who they’re using to make it but as long as it turns out good I would be happy.
Seems crazy to me that the Netflix show has done so good and yet we haven’t had a decent game in over a decade. Their re-releases show they haven’t forgotten the series so a big budget revamp would be great.
Failing that I’m interested to know what Hideo Kojima’s horror game is going to be. Say what you like about the man but he’s anything but conventional so I’d love to see what he could do with the new tech.

God of remasters
I’m really looking forward to seeing the next God Of War. The original game is one that could really have done with the SSD, given the loading – especially around the world tree – so I’m hopeful for a remaster as well.
I’d hope that the sequel though will feature big populations of people. One of the complaints about the original is that the world is kind of empty, with no people in it, but this would be a great excuse to populate it and show off the power of the new console.

Cyberpunk future
Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Mankind Divided were part of a series of games which ticked pretty much every box I’d want in a game.
I loved the sci-fi setting and the political storyline contained in the futuristic stealth action. The stealth is actually my favourite kind of stealth and one I’d like to see advanced upon in the next possible game.
I actually found the stealth a lot easier to pull off in Deus Ex than Metal Gear Solid 5 any day. In Metal Gear Solid 5, there weren’t many times where I’d get a flawless mission completed, which didn’t involve a messy fire fight, alarms blaring, reinforcements being called in, explosions, and dead bodies littered everywhere.
I know the last game, Mankind Divided, did not do as well as it possibly should have, but hopefully that has not put off the developers. We need these types of games, with multiple ways of either violently or peacefully getting the mission completed and to have it set in an exciting and interesting environment.
Ultimately Cyberpunk 2077 could be the closest I’ll probably see to it! And from what I have seen of it so far, it is turning out to be a very impressive game indeed. But Deus Ex is celebrating some 20-odd years of being around, and needs a next generation sequel.
With the Xbox, PC, and PlayStation continuing their advancement, we need another Deus Ex advancement also, and to evolve this franchise into the possibilities that I, and many other fans, have envisioned.
