Weekend Hot Topic, part 1: Most played video game franchise

I think there’s probably a polarity between the franchises that I’ve played most and the one’s I’ve actually enjoyed the most since getting into gaming. From an early age I was picking up the FIFA entries religiously from ’98 thru to around 2010 without missing one (as far as I can remember!) but I can safely say that some of those games weren’t great! I was more enticed by the authenticity of the players/clubs, etc. rather than the actual gameplay. Although I dabbled on the latest demo and am considering giving it another go!

The same as the above can be said for Need For Speed, which I again picked up multiple entries of but I don’t think many of them captured the enjoyment I got from the Underground sub-series. Star Wars games are another which I would always go for no question, with often mixed results (lookin’ at you EA, please don’t fail with Fallen Order!). Devil May Cry have been fun but they too have had their let-downs. Thankfully Devil May Cry 5 was a blast.

If I was to talk about enjoyment multiplied with number of entries played, I’d have to go back to my Game Boy Color/Advance Pokémon days, as that was a series that certainly ate up endless hours of my time and I can’t remember disliking any of them – I even enjoyed the Trading Card Game game!

Similarly, Call Of Duty have always given me hours of fun, but I don’t actually go for the multiplayer too much. The campaigns are something that have always drew me in to Call Of Duty, and although often short they’re mostly well made I think. Other big-seller series like GTA and Gears Of War have also never disappointed me.

There are other franchises that I’ve been late-to-the-party for, such as Uncharted and God Of War (only got a PlayStation 4 about 18 months ago, switching from Xbox), which I’ve really enjoyed even tho’ I’ve only played one or two games from their line-up. Gives me something to catch up on at least!
