‘We want to build a female team around Vicksy that can inspire the next generation’ – Excel

Growing UK esports organisation Excel have spoken about their plans for a female esports team in the future.

Excel previously had a female League of Legends team which won the FemaleLegends tournament at DreamHack in late 2017.

Since then the roster has changed and today its former mid-laner – Victoria ‘Vicksy’ Doman – is now a partnered streamer for Excel.

Speaking to Esports News UK at the media day of Excel Esports’ new headquarters and training facility at Twickenham Stadium, Excel MD Kieran Holmes-Darby said: “Something we haven’t spoken about today is the female scene and how we supported it last year. We’re looking at how to best do it this year.

“Vicksy is such an awesome person and she stands for so many cool values that really cross over with Excel’s values. We want to build a team around her that can inspire the next generation.”

“I think for us at the moment it’s about taking a step back and seeing how we can best support that scene. If we’re going to do something we want to do it properly.

“Vicksy is such an awesome person and she stands for so many cool values that really cross over with Excel’s values. We want to continue to build her profile but also build a team around her that can inspire the next generation.

“It’s something we’re really keen to do here, not just for the female scene but also for the UK scene in general and inspire the next generation. Where is the next UK star going to come from? We hope we’re going to find them.”

Kieran also spoke about inviting streamers along to stream from Excel’s HQ.

“We’d love to invite some of the streamers from the UK to come and stream from the facility if it benefits them, but if not just to get them to look at the space and we’d love to entertain them here,” he said.

Excel also confirmed that their only esports team is their League of Legends one right now, but they are open to looking at other games in the future.
