We share tea-buying tips as the cost of a cuppa rises by 40% — plus grab a pair of FREE tickets to Thorpe Park worth over £100

IT might be hard to swallow – but the cost of a cuppa could be going up.

Most of our tea comes from Kenya and a drought has sparked warnings about the price of tea rising by as much as 40 per cent.

The average 60-pack of teabags could jump from £2.60 to £3.64 – here’s how to beat the hike

That means the average 60-pack of teabags could jump from £2.60 to £3.64.

But I have got some tea-riffic tips to help you save now…

  1. Stack ’em high: Prices have not gone up yet, so look out for two-for-one deals. If you have space and the budget, buy in bulk. Tea bags have expiry dates of around a year — although this is only a guide — and that is plenty of time to get through them. It might sound extreme but you can pick up a pack of 1,100 PG Tips tea bags for £17.73 on Amazon, which works out at less than 2p a cup.
  2. Offer it up: Look out for big discounts by checking my page regularly for offers and watch for big store anniversaries this year. Tesco is celebrating 100 years and has slashed the price of 240 Tetley tea bags from £5 to £2.50.
  3. Double up: It is a simple suggestion, but one tea bag can make two cups of tea. Some Savers have told me they use one tea bag for up to four cups. If you are not already using one bag for two, consider it the simple way to get double the value for half the cash.
  4. Nothing to loose: Using loose-leaf tea could pay off in a number of ways. The quality often means you can re-steep your used leaves several times — up to five, according to some people. Asda sells an own-brand version for £1.28 and it will make 80 cups. When Twinings is selling 80 bags of English Breakfast tea for £4.99, it really makes you think.
