Man Utd new boy Amad Diallo posts Atalanta tribute after sealing transfer

Manchester United’s talented young winger Amad is at the centre of a transfer tug of war.

The 19-year-old joined United just over a year ago from Italian side Atalanta in a deal potentially worth as much as £37million.

Now, he could be set for a loan spell away from Old Trafford – and a clutch of Championship clubs are squabbling to try and lure him.

The Telegraph say that second tier trio Barnsley, Birmingham City and Derby County all want to take Amad on loan until the end of the current campaign.

He had been due to join Feyenoord on a season-long loan in August only for a thigh injury could scupper the deal.

His only appearance for United’s senior team this season came in a Champions League game against Young Boys back in December.

It is claimed it was always United’s intention to send Amad out on loan this month and now it is just a case of where his destination will be.

Derby boss and United legend Wayne Rooney is hoping his close connection with the club will help him lure Amad to the East Midlands.

Rooney previously had Teden Mengi on loan at Derby.

Mengi was linked with a return loan this season but ended up staying at United for the first half of the campaign. He then moved to Birmingham last week and it has now emerged that City are chasing a third Old Trafford loan deal.

As well as Mengi, they have Tahith Chong on a temporary contract. The Dutchman was in sparkling form for the Blues prior to sustaining an injury.

Despite needing surgery, his loan was never terminated and he is expected to play some part for Bowyer’s side before the season it out.

The presence of two of his United colleagues could make St Andrew’s an enticing prospect for Diallo.

Barnsley are the other Championship side known to be interested in signing Amad with the South Yorkshire side, like Derby, battling relegation.

Rooney’s side are 11 points adrift of safety having been struck with two separate points deductions – for entering administration and for a breach of accounting policies – totalling 21 points.

Derby are also operating under a transfer embargo but they are still able to sign players on loan deals.

The bigger worry is losing players on the cheap due to their predicament, although Rooney insists that will not happen.

Lee Buchanan, and other Derby assets, will not be sold on the cheap according to boss Wayne Rooney

He recently said: “There has been bids for players, I know that. Them bids have been turned away because they are absolutely ridiculous bids.

“If I am being honest it is the equivalent of me walking into say a Ferrari garage with £10,000 in my pocket – you get turned away.

“We are in administration, we know that, and we know there are vultures out there trying to take our players for peanuts, and that will certainly not happen.”
