Wayne Lineker's staff test positive for Covid-19 forcing him to shut Ibiza bar

Wayne Lineker has been left with no choice to close his famous bar in Ibiza.

The businessman, 58, who is footballing ace Gary Lineker’s brother, was forced to shut up shop after some of his bar staff tested positive for coronavirus.

It is understood that the Ibiza bar’s manager James Blyther told staff in a text last Tuesday that he and his girlfriend Gerda has tested positive for the killer virus.

James promised to organise tests for all employees the following day, according to  The Sun.

The publication claims that staff members were ordered to carry out their shifts – while kitted out in masks and regularly urged to use sanitiser – instead of the venue closing until the test results came back.

Following this, it is claimed that eight of the 20 staff then tested positive, which led to Wayne announcing the closure of the bar.

A source told the outlet: “It’s incredibly alarming. In a week it has clearly spread like wildfire.

“The bar should have been shut down immediately but it’s peak season and it’s busy.

“We had to do our shifts as normal until we had the test the next day.”

They added that they felt that the “safety of staff and customers” was forgotten in favour of “profits”.

Taking to social media, Wayne shared a snap of himself looking glum as he posed alone on a bar stall at the closed venue.

He typed” “Covid 1. Lineker’s 0. We may have lost the battle but we will not lose the war.

“But we’re healthy so still blessed. See you next year.”

There was also a post alerting customers to the closure posted to the Linker’s Ibiza Instagram page.

The statement read: “Unfortunately it is with a heavy heart that Linkerars Ibiza has had to close its doors for the remainder of the 2020 season.

“We would like to say a big thank you to all our customers and staff who have supported us and been amazing for the short period of time we have been open.

“We look forward to welcoming you in the near future with better news and conditions.

“Please stay safe and responsible in these difficult times.

“Thank you Linekers Ibiza.”
