The series has already been criticised by the missing child’s parents
A trailer for the upcoming Netflix documentary series The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann has been released, giving a glimpse of how the controversial programme will depict the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine nearly 12 years ago.
Madeleine was three years old when she disappeared while on holiday with her family in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in May 2007.
The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann will be released on the streaming service tomorrow (March 15), with a synopsis promising “a detailed look at the disappearance” of Madeleine over the course of eight hour-long episodes. The series has already attracted controversy, with Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, publicly criticising the documentary and warning that it “could potentially hinder” the ongoing police investigation into her disappearance.

The statement from the McCanns, who declined an invitation from producers Pulse Films to be interviewed for the documentary, also explained that the family could “not see how this programme will help the search for Madeleine”. The couple also noted that their “views and preferences” were not reflected in the series.
Speaking to The Guardian, the family’s former spokesperson Clarence Mitchell (who still assists with media enquires) added: “Kate and Gerry and their wider family and friends were approached some months ago to participate in the documentary.
“Kate and Gerry didn’t ask for it and don’t see how it will help the search for Maddie on a practical level, so they chose not to engage.”
Back in November, an extra £150,000 was granted by the government for use in the Metropolitan Police’s ongoing investigation into Madeleine’s disappearance.
