The whale, entangled in fishing rope, was spotted by fisherman on Wednesday at about 05:30.
“On arrival at the scene, an adult 10m humpback whale was found entangled in fishing rope anchored to the seabed,” the SAWDN’s spokesperson, Craig Lambinon, said in a statement.
The organisation managed to successfully free the whale within 30 minutes using specialised cutting equipment.
According to the SAWDN statement, the large mammal appeared to be healthy and unharmed and swam away confidently after the rescue mission.
