Watch Dark Waters If you enjoy procedural courtroom thrillers

THIS ecological courtroom thriller is both incredibly watchable and, if something so full of dread can be, a fantastic watch.

It is also true. Think about your home and how many objects are non-stick or waterproof. Chances are there’s a fair few.

What you might not know is that all these items contain a “forever” chemical called PFOA (forever because it is impossible for them to leave the bloodstream and they accumulate over time).

PFOA is only regulated by companies such as DuPont which use it in their products. The production of Teflon resulted in thousands of gallons of sludge being dumped in rivers and dangerous substances in landfill.

Robert Bilott (Mark Ruffalo) is a lawyer in a firm specialising in helping chemical companies weave through regulation and lawsuits. He gets yanked over to the other side of the fence by Wilbur, a farmer and friend, who accuses DuPont of killing his cattle.

He is soon embroiled in a battle and gets in way over his head. If you enjoy procedural courtroom thrillers, you’ll love this.

Ruffalo brings gravitas and passion and the fact this doesn’t need to be a righteous movie makes it all the more powerful.

Director Todd Haynes calmly presents one of the most shocking cases of corporate malpractice I’m ashamed to have known nothing about.
