Wargroove details sizeable, and free, co-op-focussed DLC update Double Trouble

Developer Chucklefish has unveiled Double Trouble, a free new slab of DLC coming to its Advance-Wars-inspired turn-based strategy game Wargroove in the future.

Double Trouble, as its name suggests, has been designed with co-op play in mind, and, to that end, adds a new story campaign intended for two players. “After an unexpected kidnapping and some severe ransom demands,” teases Chucklefish, “your group of rogues have no choice but to perform the biggest heist that Aurania has ever seen…” It’ll support couch-based co-op, online co-op, and can even be played solo if there are no pals around.

Double Trouble will also introduce three new Outlaw Commanders – Wulfar, Vesper, and “troublemaker twins” Errol and Orla (who technically count as one Commander, in case you were wondering), as well as two new units in the form of Thieves and Riflemen.

Thieves are described as the “sneakiest unit in the game”, and, while lacking in strength, can fill gather 300 gold by ransacking enemy buildings, and 1000 gold if they can infiltrate an enemy Stronghold. Riflemen, meanwhile, are expert shooters and can aim from great distances – even if they can’t hit a target hiding in trees. Although their ammo is limited, a Rifleman’s last shot can land a powerful critical hit.

Elsewhere, the sizeable update features new arcade missions, competitive online Quick Play maps, public and private multiplayer lobbies, new music tracks, balance changes, extensive updates to Wargroove’s editor tools, and more. The editor update, in particular, sounds significant, introducing the likes of volcano biomes, counters, gizmos, and unit modifiers – all outlined in Chucklefish’s latest blog post.

Wargroove’s Double Trouble update is, according to the developer, currently in the final testing phase for Switch, PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. A release date will be announced as soon as the update has passed submissions, and you can catch a first look at its additions during a Twitch livestream tomorrow.
