Voice of the Mirror: Boy on hospital floor shames Johnson and Tories in election week

The photograph of four-year-old Jack lying on a pile of coats on a hospital floor wearing an oxygen mask shames Boris Johnson and his Tories in election week.

The lad with suspected pneumonia went to Leeds General Infirmary after a doctor called an ambulance but no beds were available.

Jack shows the human cost of the harshest ever financial squeeze on the NHS, a damning indictment of the Tories’ criminal neglect.

No wonder Jack’s mother is switching from the Tories to Labour on Thursday.

The staff are blameless, performing miracles despite the cuts. As are hard-pressed managers, coping best they can with the bad hands dealt them by successive Conservative regimes.

The NHS is being squeezed by the Tories’ criminal neglect

Fault rests with the Tories. When Boris Johnson is in the North of England today he will discover people want this election to be about far more than Brexit.

It’s about wages, the economy, education, housing, crime and saving our NHS from Tories wrecking what we care dearly about.

Kind readers

A BIG thank you to all the generous Daily Mirror readers who have helped raise £20,000 for our Christmas appeal to put smiles on the faces of poorer children.

We knew you would not let them down. Their families will struggle over Christmas, as they do every day of the year, and will continue to until Tory austerity is over and Labour is back in power.

There is still time to chip in. Please give what you can afford. It will go towards making it a merry Christmas for kids who need it most.

Comeback kid

Anthony Joshua after reclaiming the IBF, WBA, WBO & IBO World Heavyweight Championship belts from Andy Ruiz

Like all true champs there was no keeping heavyweight Anthony Joshua down.

AJ took the perfect revenge for June’s humiliation at the gloves of Mexican ball of fury Andy Ruiz Jr by winning back his world title.

It was a comeback worthy of Rocky star Sylvester Stallone, who watched the points victory on TV. But it also must have been a bit of a blow for Sly – as he was backing Ruiz.
