Virtual Grand National sweepstake kit: Download for FREE here

It may be an unusual time in the sporting world at the moment, but one major event is going ahead this weekend.

The 2020 Virtual Grand National, a computerised form of the big race at Aintree, has taken place before the main event for the last three years.

Just like the real thing, there are 40 runners and the field is made up to horses and riders who were most likely to run in the marathon.

They will jump 30 fences and the team behind it work out the winner using mathematical algorithms, featuring data from the horses’ previous performances.

Fear not if you don’t know your form from your furlong, because everyone can get involved in the fun with our sweepstake.

All you need to do is print out the form at the bottom of this article, cut out the names and stick them in a container.

Set an entry fee, gather friends and family on social media and make the draw.

You decide whether the winner takes all, or if you want to dish out prizes for second and third places as well.

The TV coverage will start at 5pm on Saturday (April 4), so what are you waiting for?

How to watch the Virtual Grand National

The Virtual Grand National will be shown live on ITV1 at 5.15pm on Saturday.

It can also be streamed live on ITV Hub for viewers in the UK.

Richard Pitman, who nearly won the 1973 Grand National on Crisp, joins Nick Luck and guests for the TV special.

The programme will last half an hour and there will be a ‘Race of Champions’ too, featuring 40 past winners.

Multiple heroes Red Rum and Tiger Roll are expected to fight out the finish.

Who is the favourite to win?

Tiger Roll is the 5/1 favourite for the Virtual Grand National and he headed the market for the real big race before it was cancelled.

No horse has won three renewals in consecutive years.

The contest has been a good indicator to Aintree fortunes over the years.

In 2019, the computer chose three of the top five finishers, including Tiger Roll.

So form students can put some faith in the result with a whole 365 days to go until Aintree 2021.
