Virat Kohli hailed ‘world-class’ Jonny Bairstow and David Warner after the Sunrisers Hyderabad duo both hit centuries in the IPL victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Ashes rivals Bairstow and Warner shared an opening partnership of 185 in Hyderabad on Sunday, with Bairstow smashing 12 boundaries in a 56-ball 114.

Australian Warner finished unbeaten on 100 as the home side posted a mammoth score of 231-2.

Kohli’s Bangalore were bowled out for just 113 in reply and the India captain said: ‘It’s one of our worst losses ever.

‘There is literally nothing I can explain right now. Nothing went right for us. It’s a difficult one to explain but we were outplayed in all departments by a quality side.

‘They showed why they got to the final last year. Credit to them – they played really well and deserved to win.’

On Bairstow and Warner’s thrilling partnership, Kohli added: ‘We could have tried a few different things, maybe pace off the ball and bouncers, but we didn’t really try anything once they were in.

‘It was very difficult to contain runs. You need some luck but the way they batted was outstanding.

‘To show that intent for 16 overs is a brilliant effort. Credit to both of them. They were world-class today.’

Kohli also suggested he would remain at No. 3 in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s batting order, having opened at times during previous tournaments.

‘We’ve thought about that. When I’ve opened I’ve done well but it’s important to find the right balance,’ India’s star batsman said.

‘I feel at three brings more balance to the side. I don’t see that changing.’

RCB are next in action on Tuesday against Rajasthan Royals, while Bairstow and Warner’s Sunrisers face Delhi Capitals on Thursday.
