Viola Davis and Andre Braugher to star in new live episode of Norman Lear’s Good Times on ABC

ABC has revealed the cast for its upcoming Live In Front of a Studio Audience edition of Good Times.

Viola Davis and Andre Braugher are set to star as Florida Evans and James Evans on Good Times in the new incarnation that will air alongside a live edition of All In The Family.

Both are set to be broadcast on ABC on December 18.

Davis will be joined by Andre Braugher as James Evans in the Norman Lear-created comedy

Joining Davis and Braugher in the celebration of the Norman Lear sitcoms will be Jay Pharoah as J.J Evans, Asante Blackk as Michael Evans, Corinne Foxx as Thelma Evans and Tiffany Haddish as Willona Woods. 

There will also be a ‘show-stopping musical performance’ by Black-ish star Anthony Anderson and singer Patti LaBelle. 

ABC had previously announced that Woody Harrelson, Marisa Tomei, Ellie Kemper and Ike Barinholtz will reprise their All In The Family roles as Archie and Edith Bunker, Gloria Stivic and Meathead from the previous special that aired in the spring. 

They will be joined by new cast members Kevin Bacon, Jesse Eisenberg and Justina Machado, whose roles will be revealed live on the air next Wednesday.

The spring special, Live in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear’s All in the Family and The Jeffersons, was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and Lear, 97. 

The special was nominated for three Emmy Awards and took home the prize for Outstanding Variety Special (Live).

All In the Family was created by Lear and Buzz Yorkin in 1971, considered by many to be among the greatest sitcoms ever.

The show spanned nine seasons until 1979, with Lear developing Good Times with creators Mike Evans and Eric Monte.

Good Times ran for six seasons, starring John Amos, Esther Rolle, Jimmy Walker, plus the first acting role by Janet Jackson.
