Vinnie Jones paid a touching tribute to his late wife Tanya during his performance on The X Factor: Celebrity tonight.

The former footballer was performing a heart-felt rendition of Madness’ It Must Be Love.

During his rendition, he tenderly pointed up to the sky and opened his arms out wide.

The lyrics of the song read: ‘I never thought I’d miss you, half as much as I do, and I never thought I’d feel this way, the way I feel, about you

‘As soon as I wake up, every night, every day, I know that it’s you I need.’

Not one to focus on the negatives, however, the X-Men star then went straight in to a spirited rendition of another Madness classic; the ska party anthem House of Fun.

But it seemed that the legendary hardman’s soft side had made a definite impression on the judges.

‘We know much [that song] meant to you,’ mentor Nicole Scherzinger said. ‘And who you were singing it to.’

Nicole rewarded the performance accordingly as well, giving Vinnie her safe seat, meaning the budding singer is safe from the public vote and gets a guaranteed spot in next week’s live show.

The head honcho himself, Simon Cowell, also paid tribute to the Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels actor, saying: ‘As I’ve got to know you as a friend, I would give you a safe seat.’

The star joined the singing competition as a late wildcard entry for the live shows following the sad passing of his wife Tanya this year.

He previously said that his wife would be ‘on stage with him’ when he performs on the show.

The X Factor: Celebrity continues next Saturday on ITV.
