Vince Cable condemned for foul-mouthed slogan

SIR Vince Cable was accused of “desperate” tactics last night after publishing the Lib Dem European Parliament election manifesto under the title: “B******* to Brexit.” The foul-mouthed slogan was emblazoned across the front of the document as part of the party’s fierce opposition to the UK’s departure from the EU. Sir Vince, due to retire as Lib Dem leader later this year, admitted some people might be offended but insisted the party’s message about Brexit was “honest”. He said: “OK, maybe as a country we have lost our sense of humour but it is an attempt to put, in a more pungent way, what an awful lot of people think. It is clear, it is honest. Some people will be offended, some people are easily offended.”

“Other people will think, these guys are absolutely straight forward about what they believe.”

Sir Vince said that the manifesto amounted to a “blueprint for what the UK could achieve if Brexit was stopped”.

He added: “Brexit is a failed project, which must now be stopped so our country and the whole of Europe can get on with dealing with the big challenges we face.”

But critics saw the move as an attention grabbing stunt.

Tory MP Andrew Bridgen said: “This is desperate stuff. The Lib Dems should drop the word ‘Democrats’ from their name because they appear to be intent on abusing democracy.”

THERE is one clear message from the Lib Dem’s latest Brexit slogan – they don’t respect voters, or democracy.

In June 2016 17.4 million people voted to leave the EU and this language shows complete contempt for everyone who voted in that referendum believing their vote would be respected, whatever they decided.

At this critical moment for our country we should be coming together in the national interest to deliver Brexit, so we can take back control of our laws, borders and money.

The Lib Dems are intent on stopping Brexit.

Labour is squabbling amongst themselves over a divisive second referendum.

Unlike Labour, the Lib Dems and smaller parties we are the only party who can deliver Brexit by having MPs in Parliament, 90% of whom have backed a Brexit deal already, and who are fully committed to following through on our manifesto commitment to deliver Brexit.

We didn’t want these EU elections to happen, but because Parliament has not yet backed a Brexit deal we are bound by law to take part.

That is why this Conservative government is working tirelessly to pass a deal so that we leave the EU as soon as possible and those elected need never go to the European Parliament.

Voting for the Conservatives sends a message to those that want to prevent the UK from leaving the EU or disregard the democratic will of the British people by holding a second referendum.
