Vikings season 6: Creator drops big hint there will be more seasons ‘It will be connected’

Vikings will drop the first part of season six later on this year, but fans are already wondering if there will be any more after the final series.

Season six is expected to be filled with action as fans see Björn Ironside (played by Alexander Ludwig) take to his new role as king.

After the last outing saw brutal battles take place between Bjorn and his brother Ivar the Boneless (Alex Høgh Andersen), it is expected there will be challenges to his power in the next outing.

But the next outing may not be the end of the franchise after creator Michael opened up about his plans for a continuation series.

Speaking to Variety, the creator revealed: “We’re talking about a continuation series, which I’m still going to be very involved with.

“Jeb Stuart is the other writer and it is exciting, but my main focus was on my characters.

“I have to say that they’re not characters to me. I write so much about them, I’ve lived with them for seven years. They’re real people to me. So I care, and have been caring, about them for a long time.

“I want to guide them through whatever storylines they have. That was my principle objective — to do justice to these incredible characters I found in history and helped to create onscreen.

“So no. I wasn’t thinking about the future particularly when I was dealing with my people, my characters, my beloved Vikings.”

However, the potential show is not to be confused with a spin-off series as Michael explained it may not have the same fan-favourite characters.

“Ultimately everything goes back to Kattegat and if you really want to wear the mantle of Ragnar Lothbrok and really succeed in this Vikings world you have to be king of Kattegat. Or Queen.”

Many have suspected Lagertha will step down as the female lead in the next outing as she becomes a grandmother and wants to retire.

However, with the showrunner mentioning you must be King “or Queen” to succeed in the Vikings world.

Could Lagertha return to the throne once again?

Vikings returns to History and Amazon Prime later this year.
