Vikings season 6: Alicia star teases 'really beautiful ending'

After Game of Thrones delivered a rushed and divisive last season, fans of similarly long-running series are concerned their favourites will go the same way. However, one star of popular History show Vikings confirms this won’t be the case with the historical epic.

The last episode of Vikings saw Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig) collapsed on the beach after being dealt a fatal blow during a battle against the Rus forces.

Fans saw the King of Kattegat stabbed by Ivar the Boneless (Alex Høgh Andersen), but the debate surrounding the ambiguity of the scene is hanging over the final season.

Some GOT viewers considered the resurrection of Jon Snow the beginning of the end for the series, and some Vikings fans are concerned that the series will undergo a similar fate.

However, one star who joined the fifth season confirmed that fans will be pleased with the satisfying ending of the show.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Alicia Agneson said: “I think when you run a show that’s been going for a long time. You’re always worried about that [backlash].”

In the current era of prestige TV, it still seems that some shows are doomed to write themselves into corners that can only be escaped via disappointing finales.

Alicia continued: “But when we read the final episode everyone was just quiet for two days on set to take it in. I hope the fans love it as much as we did.”

By drawing on historical events, Vikings arguably has all of history to draw inspiration from, and it had the potential to continue indefinitely.

Alicia’s comments confirm that the series will conclude with a fittingly unpredictable and masterfully constructed finale that promises to please all fans.

The star joined in season five playing Ivar’s wife Freydis, although she was killed off and returns in season six as an entirely different character, the Russian princess Katia.

Fans have been speculating on the two characters’ potential connection and, without spoiling anything, she teased: ‘I mean…you will find out quite soon.

“I suppose you don’t really know yet…but it’s in the eye of the beholder. We’ll see what happens and if she does know something about Freydis.”
