Vikings fans have been blessed with the newcomer Prince Oleg, and it seems as though he has gone down a treat after the season six premiere dropped.

We first meet the character in Kiev, Russia, after Ivar The Boneless fell to the floor at his mercy.

After an unsettling start, the pair strike up an unlikely bromance that sees them take a ride on a very primitive hot air balloon.

And it seems as though they have a lot more in common than we first thought, as the Rus Prince (Danila Kozlovsky) confided in his newfound friend about the time he killed his own wife after he discovered she had cheated on him.

Ring any bells?

While Ivar might have met his match in someone who is even more ruthless than the mad king himself, it seems we can’t help but fall in love with their friendship.

‘It’s gonna be one of the best bromance in the show,’ one fan wrote while another added: ‘I love the chemistry between Ivar and Oleg! They’re the perfect cunning and crazy dream team!’

Someone else wrote: ‘Hey real quick, everyone saw the weird sexual tension between Ivar and Oleg last night right? like, wasn’t just me, was it?’

And it seems others were in agreement: ‘Why do I have the sudden need to ship Ivar and Prince Oleg.’

However, some comments showed concern that their bond would be greater than King Ragnar’s and Athelstan’s – but we all know that will never happen.

Although we don’t recall seeing a date between Oleg and Ivar in the history books, who knows what director Michael Hirst has written in the scripts.

Talking about the newbie, Alex Høgh Andersen who plays Ivar told ET Canada: ‘He’s struggling a bit, because it’s deep water, but these Russian guys are crazy!

‘He actually kind of realises, and experiences when he gets there… he’s looking at Prince Oleg being like… maybe some would say a tad more crazy than he ever was?’

The star added: ‘So he’s looking at this and he sees the reflection of himself, and he’s like “Am I that crazy?!” I think he really needed that.’

The sixth and final season of Vikings continues next Wednesday on the History Channel and Amazon Prime.
