Ragnar Lothbrok may have died way back in season four of Vikings, but a new fan theory seems to prove he could be back for season six.

The final season of the hit History show is due to arrive later this year and fans are convinced that Ragnar will be returning, despite seeing him meet his death in a pit of venomous snakes in season four.

Fans think Ragnar – played by Travis Fimmel – will be coming back after claiming he could have made himself immune to snake venom after developing fascination with the creatures in season three.

A Reddit user posted: ‘Starting at least in season 3 Ragnar starts becoming fascinated with snakes. In the season that he lasts raids Paris we even see he has a house full of them.

‘Now is it possible that Ragnar has slowly made himself immune to different snakes’ venom and didn’t die in the pit?’

Some fans hit back at the claims he could return, saying that the snakes had eaten him or he would have died of hunger and thirst by the time his sons opened the pit.

One wrote: ‘Even if he was somehow “immune”, the snakes ate him, as we saw when his sons opened up the pit. And even if, let’s say, he wasn’t eaten, he would died of thirst and hunger.’

Another added: ‘Ragnar is dead and if they tried to fake his death somehow it would be so lame i would have to finally stop watching this show.’

Another clue that suggests Ragnar may still be alive is in a recent poster shared on the Vikings Facebook page which shows Ivar the Boneless having a crown placed on his head, and the figure holding the crown is wearing shackles very similar to those worn by Ragnar in the snake pit.

Although the identity of the person is unclear from the photo, the image of the shackles was enough to get fans hoping that Ragnar may just return against all odds.

Vikings season six is due to return to History Channel and Amazon Prime Video this Autumn.
