Vikings’ Alexander Ludwig has celebrated his mum in a heart-warming post marking a return to Romania after 14 years.

Snapping a selfie from his hotel room, the 27-year-old Canadian actor had a pause for thought remembering his time in Romania while filming one of his first major films, The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising.

He wrote alongside it: ‘Last day promoting #vikings #season6 in #Romania last time I was here it was 14years ago with my beautiful mother who moved her whole life to support my dream as I filmed my first big motion picture at 13 years old called #theseeker.

‘My dad and her would take turns supervising me on set. I am reminded of how lucky I was to have that kind of support growing up. I Love you guys and am so grateful for you [Sharlene Ludwig] and [Harald Ludwig].’

‘So much has changed since then but the country is just as beautiful as I remember,’ he added. ‘Wish you guys were here.

‘I’d post a pic of us back then but I don’t have it with me so it’ll have to wait. ❤️ I hope everyone’s having an awesome day!’

The Seeker saw Alexander lead a cast Hollywood megastars including Ian McShane (American Gods), Frances Conroy (American Horror Story) and Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who) at the age of just 13.

His character Will discovers before his 14th birthday that he’s part of an elite group of warriors who travel through time and can confront dark forces.

Now, Alexander will be heading into an all-new kind of battle as he prepares for one last season as Bjorn in the much-loved Vikings series.

The first episode of the final chapter will air on the History Channel on Wednesday 4 December and viewers will be treated to an extra special two-hour installment.

Ahead of the trailer dropping at the beginning of October, Alexander teased one hell of an epic event, and wrote online: ‘I hope you are all as excited as I am for the epic ending all our amazing fans deserve.

‘But before that..it gets insane…. so much love to you all.’

Vikings returns Wednesday 4th December on the History Channel.
