Viewers convinced Asda and Ikea’s Christmas adverts are better than John Lewis’ Excitable Edgar

JOHN Lewis’ Christmas advert – usually the most anticipated of the year – has finally been released, but many viewers aren’t a fan of Excitable Edgar.

In fact, some think that Asda and Ikea’s Christmas ads are far better than John Lewis’ “disappointing” festive ad.

John Lewis releases its eagerly anticipated Christmas advert starring Excitable Edgar

Since John Lewis’ 2019 advert dropped yesterday (November 14) viewers have taken to Twitter to express their disappointment.

It follows Edgar, an excitable dragon whose accidental flames almost ruin Christmas.

But, with the help of his friend Ava, he finds a way of fitting in at Christmas by lighting the Christmas pudding.

The John Lewis advert is often expected to be the best advert of the year, and this year’s advert cost £7million to make – but some think other adverts deserve the top spot.

Many prefer Asda and Ikea’s ads, with adverts by Aldi, Argos, Iceland and Sainsbury’s also getting a mention.

Asda Christmas advert 2019 sees magic Northern lights warming hearts

Asda’s 2019 Christmas advert follows a little girl bottling up the northern lights to spread Christmas cheer in her village.

The heartwarming ad, which was released on November 4, captured many people’s hearts and some even think it’s the “best ad of the year”.

And, it has a wonderful message behind it, highlighting people who go the extra mile during the festive season to help others.

One user wrote on Twitter: “Unpopular opinion but I think the Asda Christmas advert is better than the John Lewis advert”.

Another said that they “just didn’t get” John Lewis’ Excitable Edgar ad, whereas Asda’s ad was “magical” and “just Christmas”.

The ad is also part of Asda’s yearly charity campaigns, with plans this year to give £1million up to 1,500 charities across the UK – more than double than last year.

Others loved Ikea’s first ever Christmas advert which saw ornaments come to life encouraging a couple to spruce up their drab home.

The 90 second ad features an original track “Silence the Critics” by grime legend and member of the Newham Generals, MC D Double E.

As part of the campaign, Ikea is holding in-store events across the UK to help customers make their homes festive, including “treetorials”.

Ikea said they deliberately wanted to go against the tide of sentimental Christmas ads – which is maybe why so many people like it.

One Twitter user dubbed it the “Christmas ad of the decade” and told John Lewis to “try again next year.”

Another wrote: “I love Edgar the Dragon but Ikea is definitely my favourite Christmas ad so far!

Other ads also got a mention as better than John Lewis, including the return of Aldi’s Kevin the Carrot and Argos’ ad featuring its “book of dreams”.

On person tweeted: “John Lewis’ Christmas advert is so sweet but I still prefer either Aldi’s or Asda’s.”

Another said: “Argos’ ad is defo better than John Lewis’.”
