The trailer for the newest The Grudge movie officially dropped today – and now fans have been left pretty spooked after a noteworthy shower scene was featured.

The horror film is a reimagining of both the 2004 film of the same name, as well as the original Japanese 2002 flick, titled Ju-On: The Grudge – with Andrea Riseborough, John Cho and Betty Giplin all set to star, while Nicolas Pesce has directed.

In the film, Andrea stars as a police officer in a new town, who becomes involved in an investigation concering a house occupied by a mysterious ghost.

And from what we can see in the trailer, the figure in question appears to set their sights on anyone who dares to enter the house – and one particular shot shows the ghost’s fingers running through the head of a man as he takes a shower.

A bit freaky if you ask us.

The shower scene was notably featured in the 2004 adaptation of the film as well – and it has long left viewers scared that a ghost just like the one in the movie would pull the same trick on them in real life.

And of course, fans have been left terrified over this scene and its inclusion in the latest movie.

‘The shower scene. My worst nightmare,’ one fan wrote on Twitter.

‘I really hated that shower scene, it always gets me,’ another tweeted.

‘No, not another shower scene,’ another said.

‘Not that shower scene from The Grudge, please anything but that,’ one concerned fan stated.

Director Nicolas previously revealed that the new movie opens up a ‘new chapter’ in the Grudge universe, as opposed to being another remake.

‘The beauty of The Grudge franchise, both the American and Japanese iterations, is it’s an anthology series,’ he told Entertainment Weekly. ‘Every movie is a different story of different characters having different interactions with this curse.

‘In today’s age where we’re remaking everything, I thought it would be fun to dive into The Grudge universe where we don’t have to remake anything, but rather a new chapter in this canon.’

He added that the movie is set to take place concurrently with the timeline of the 2004 adaptation, with the stories ‘interweaving’.

‘Like the old films, it’s a tapestry of three different stories that interweave and all take place at slightly different times, centered around this one house that’s at the centre of this case that this cop [Andrea Riseboroough] is working on.’

The Grudge will be released to cinemas on 31 January 2020.
