Victoria Beckham won't let model daughter Harper wear thigh-high boots on catwalk

She’s only eight years old but little Harper Beckham was as well-dressed as the models that stepped out at her mum’s fashion show.

Victoria showed her latest collection at London Fashion Week on Sunday and still found time to make sure her youngest was turned out properly in a couture dress, designed by mum.

But she drew the line at making Harper her own thigh-high boots to match.

Harper sat on her dad David’s knee in the front row next to American Vogue editor Anna Wintour with her big brothers Romeo, 17, and 14-year-old Cruz streaming the show from their phones.

Victoria, 45, said her family’s support is essential to her.

She added: “They are so supportive. They’ve been with me this week. Harper has been running around and we actually made that dress for her. This is the first time that we’ve created a little person’s dress, so she has a couture dress.”

Instead of blue thigh-length boots like the models, Harper accessorised her dress with stompy Dr Martens.

Victoria admitted she still gets butterflies before the models step out on the catwalk.

The former Spice Girl told CNBC’s Tania Bryer: “I always get nervous. It doesn’t get any easier. If anything, it gets more difficult. When I started, I was a little bit innocent.

“I just want the collection to look its best. I want the girls to look their best and I want my community to love what I’m offering them for the season.”

Part of that might be the financial pressure. Sales at the label were down 16 per cent to £35million last year, when south-east Asian department stores cut back on orders.

It was Victoria’s 11th year in a row of operating at a loss. The high-end company, that sells skirts for £3000 and coats for upwards of £2000, lost £12.2million last year.

She said: “I don’t sleep for about five nights in the lead-up to the show. We spend so much time agonising over every single detail. Is that the right hem length? Is that the right shirt? Is that the right girl?”

Despite the long sleeves and demure knee-length skirts, the designer says that this collection is “about losing my inhibitions”.

She said: “It was about rebelling in a controlled way. We have a different hem length with shorter culottes and shorter skirts and dresses.

“Last season we had all the big colorful dresses. And so this season there were nine or 10 full black looks, more tailored dresses, a neater silhouette.

“Playing with colour in an unexpected, strange kind of way.”

The designer took inspiration from wackball 60s models such as Penelope Tree and Marisa Berenson. She said: “That translates into thigh-length leather platform boots, whether it’s in lilac, or red or white.”

Having shown in New York for many years, Victoria has only been part of London Fashion Week since 2018. This season’s show was in the Banqueting House, opposite Downing Street, with Rubens frescoes on the walls. And she was clearly delighted to be there.

She said: “I mean, look at this venue. Where else would you get this? This is a dream come true.” Victoria sent the models out with glowing skin, thanks to her new beauty line. She has teamed up with stem cell biologist Augustinus Bader to create a moisturiser and serum for her own brand.

She said: “He is a genius and the science is remarkable. It’s always been a dream of mine to go into skincare, but there was only one person that I wanted to do that with.

“I want to create what I believe is the best, what I want to use myself. Those two products really were the foundation of the girls’ look today. It was all about healthy, glowing skin, really looking after their skin, being kind to their skin.”

With almost 28million followers on Instagram, Victoria feels she can learn what people want from her beauty range.

She said: “I really enjoy social media. I love to use it, to have fun but I can also use it to really engage with my community.

“This is really, really important, especially with beauty.

“What does my community want from me? What products does my community want? What’s important to them?”

Victoria got her kids on board to test them out. Surprise – they loved them.

Like any parent, she’s anxious about what her kids get up to online. She said: “They’re children but people are watching everything that they do. So I think that can be a little bit scary.”

With LFW over, the family’s focus will now switch to Miami. David, one of the owners of Inter Miami, has just scored a £180million sponsorship deal from Qatar.

Victoria said: “We are so excited about Miami. This has been a dream come true, not just for David but our whole family.

“It’s a new chapter for us.”
