Victoria Beckham reveals how she raises her boys to be good men: ‘Being kind is key’

Victoria Beckham has discussed how to raise boys to be good men, insisting the teaching of ‘kindness’ is the key ingredient.

The Spice Girls star is a mum to three sons: the recently-engaged Brooklyn, 21, Romeo, 17 and Cruz, 15.

She and husband David are also parents to a nine-year-old daughter, Harper.

Speaking in a video interview, the designer was asked by photographer Alexi Lubomirski ‘what are your methods for bringing up boys to be good men, in this modern age?’

Good question.

‘You know, I feel really proud of our boys,’ replied Vic. ‘Because they really are turning out to be really good men.’

‘They work really hard, and they’re kind kids,’ she continued:. ‘I think being kind is key now. There are so many horrible things going on in the world.

‘And with regards to the boys, boys have to have respect for themselves, for others, for girls… And our boys have always had the utmost respect for everybody.

‘That’s a key message.’

Victoria also opened up about her approach to parenting while writing for Vogue Australia this week – while discussing how she was bullied as a teen.

‘When I was at school, I was quite an awkward teenager,’ she said. ‘I didn’t have a huge amount of friends, and looking back I recognise that I was bullied at times.

‘I would never want anyone else to feel how I was made to feel. So when Harper started school, I said to her: “If you’re ever in the playground and there’s a little girl who is sitting on her own, ask her to play with you, go up and engage with her, because Mummy used to be that little girl.”

‘I want everyone to know that no-one is on their own when Harper is around.’
