Vanessa Hudgens has shared a post showing support for healthcare workers in the US, after her shocking comments about the coronavirus pandemic on an Instagram Live earlier this week.

The post contains an image of medical workers holding up a series of signs that read: ‘We stay here for you, please stay home for us’.

The actress also shared a post that detailed how best to ‘beat’ the virus, including tips like staying at home, washing your hands often and social distancing.

The actress caused a stir with her comments about the pandemic during a make-up tutorial this week. She was asked by fans what she thought of the idea of self-imposed quarantine to prevent the spread of Covid-19, which has killed 11,554 people worldwide at the time of writing.

She replied: ‘Um, yeah, ’til July sounds like a bunch of bulls**t. I’m sorry, but like, it’s a virus, I get it, like, I respect it, but at the same time I’m like, even if everybody gets it, like yeah, people are going to die, which is terrible but like, inevitable?’

She perhaps knew the effect her words would have, as she added: ‘I don’t know. Maybe I shouldn’t be doing this right now.’

Fans flocked to slam the actress, with one writing: ‘I’m so sad about what #VanessaHudgens has said on her IG Live, it is insensitive and cruel.’

Journalist Yashar Ali wrote: ‘What a horrible and heartless message for you to share with the younger people who look up to you.’

What does self-isolation mean?

Self-isolation means staying indoors and avoiding all contact with other people for 14 days, according to the NHS.

It means no going to work, school, the shops or even to the park for some fresh air, in order to minimise the risk of passing on Covid-19.

Public transport and taxis are a no-no and you shouldn’t have visitors over, even if you just stay at home.

Anyone in self-isolation is advised to ask friends, family and delivery drivers to pick things up for you and drop them-off. You should put a sign outside telling people you are self-isolating and everything should be left on the floor outside your front door to avoid the risk of further infections.

Those who are self-isolating are still advised to stay away from their pets as much as possible and to wash their hands before and after touching them.

If you live in a house share and have to self-isolate, the advice is to stay in your room with the door closed and only emerge to use communal kitchens, bathrooms and living areas if absolutely necessary.

Who should self-isolate?

The government advises anyone returning from Category 1 areas (Hubei, Iran, Italy and Daegu or Cheongdo in South Korea), to go straight home and self-isolate, even if they don’t display any symptoms.

Travellers should use the 111 online coronavirus service to find out what to do next.

Anyone returning from Category 2 areas should self-isolate and call 111 if they have Covid-19 symptoms. You can find the list of those places here.

However, she appears to have changed her mind, even adding some rallying words to her Instagram bio: ‘STAY IN!!!! Don’t go out. Let’s get thru this together’.

Vanessa later apologised for her comments, saying: ‘I’m so sorry for the way I have offended anyone and everyone who has seen the clip from my Instagram Live yesterday.

‘I realise my words were insensitive and not at all appropriate for the situation our country and the world are in right now.’

She added: ‘This has been a huge wake up call about the significance my words have, now more than ever. I’m sending safe wishes to everyone to stay safe and healthy during this crazy time.’

While many have criticised her previous comments, Chrissy Teigen has offered her support – despite acknowledging that what she said was ‘dumb’.

She tweeted: ‘Sometimes people, especially famous people, are gonna say really stupid s**t. & so are you. and they, and u, will learn from it & hopefully their history says they’re good.

‘It’s ok. and at the same time, wow they really had a dumb f****n moment. but u don’t have ruin their lives.’

Relieved to not be on the receiving end of the backlash this time, Chrissy added: ‘This isn’t about me this time. but it will be one day, or it’ll be you. but yeah today it’s Vanessa lol.’
