  • After The International 10 in August, Valve will create a new esports structure for Dota 2 that will introduce six regional leagues with 16 teams each.
  • Each league will have three seasons with a prize pool of $280K USD for each season.
  • This prize pool does not include The International’s industry-leading total.

Valve Corporation, developer and publisher of Dota 2, announced on Tuesday night that following The International 10 later this year, the Dota 2 Pro Circuit will move to a regional league structure.

According to the release, in order to create a “better structure for the development of Tier 2 and Tier 3 teams,” six regional leagues will be created with each year being divided into three seasons. The teams from the leagues will fight through their own leagues and majors in order to reach The International, which is the world champion-crowning event for the title.

Each of the six leagues will feature a prize pool of $280K USD per season. This total does not include the prize pool for The International, which last year exceeded $34M.

The regions selected for these new leagues include:

  • Europe
  • China
  • Southeast Asia
  • South America
  • North America
  • CIS

Each region will broadcast its competition three days per week.

The season will conclude with a Major tournament featuring 18 teams from all regions and sporting a prize pool of $500K plus DPC (Dota Pro Circuit) points, which are used to determine invites to The International. Teams will also earn DPC points based on their performance in league play.
