USA vs France prediction: How will Women’s World Cup quarter-final play out?

USA face France in the quarter-finals of the Women’s World Cup tonight.

Tournament favourites USA blasted out of the blocks against Thailand but have hit the skids a little since then and only just squeezed past Spain thanks to two Megan Rapinoe penalties in the last 16.

France weren’t at their best either last time out with Amandine Henry’s 106th minute winner the only difference between them and Brazil.

It promises to be dramatic night in Paris with England awaiting in the last four.

Here’s everything you need to know:

Prediction

The two best teams in the competition meet in Paris with a place in the semi-finals at stake. It’s fair to say that both have yet to fully hit their stride with perhaps their respective tournament openers, wins over Norway and Thailand respectively, the best they have shown thus far.

That does mean there is plenty of room for improvement when they face off at the Parc des Princes, however, with some of the world’s best players on show.

Alex Morgan leads the scoring charts – despite scoring all of her five goals in the first game – and will be a constant threat while Megan Rapinoe, matchwinner last time out, is set to be a marked woman as she attempts to pull the American strings.

For France Amandine Henry, also a matchwinner in the last game, has been Les Bleus’ standout so far and must take the game by the scruff of the neck and take control of that middle third if the hosts are to prevail here.

The 2015 winners probably have the edge in terms of pure talent but France’s home advantage may well be enough to redress that balance. It’ll be close. France 1-2 USA
