US house music star, Moon Boots drops by with ten hot tracks

US house music star, Moon Boots, recently dropped his second album Bimini Road for Anjunadeep.

The eagerly anticipated long player has been hyped by everyone from Black Madonna to Mixmag and Annie Mac, and hit the US iTunes Top 10 dance chart last month.

To celebrate, Moon Boots has given us an exclusive playlist about what he says are his favourite “songs about the sun interspersed with songs about the moon (or with moon somewhere in the title)”. Jump into his selection below that features Mr Fingers, Booker T & The MGs, a go-to Masters At Work remix, and the track that gave him his name.

This one really set the mood when I played it last summer at Anjunadeep Open Air at Three Mills Island. Lovely place and one of my favourite DJ gigs to date. This was released by Optimo, who have such incredible and eclectic taste. If I remember right, the producer wrote it after an intense (and positive) experience with hallucinogens.

Moon Boots – So Previous (featuring KONA)

KONA’s a brilliant singer who I’m working with for the second time and is an integral part of the Moon Boots live experience. This song gets double points for its hook in the breakdown (“you are the sun you are the one it’s you”).

Mr Fingers – The Sun Can’t Compare (featuring Mr White)

One of the best house tracks of all time. I got my start as a DJ and producer in Chicago and can say that this is an underground Chicago anthem. This one also gets double points for the lyrics “The Moon can’t compare / To your beams”

Atmosfear – Dancing In Outer Space (Masters At Work Lunar Mix)

Fun remix by the impeccable Masters At Work. The title says it all. The original is by a British jazz funk group who made some really nice disco instrumentals.

O’Flynn – Sunspear

Was first tipped off to O’Flynn by listening to Denis Sulta, a DJ I admire from Glasgow. This is a fun one for daytime parties, which I DJ’d a lot of earlier in the summer before getting ready for the live tour.

Moon Boots (feat Black Gatsby) – Whisper In The Wind

While I’m here might as well promote another song I love dearly from my new album. This one is with my good friend and collaborator Black Gatsby; he is a force to be reckoned with. We’ll be releasing it as a video very soon along with a remix from Alex Metric!

Ramsey Lewis (featuring Earth Wind and Fire) – Sun Goddess

I love Earth Wind and Fire. They have made — and been a part of — so many incredible tracks, and this is one of my favorites. The rhythm guitars were an influence for part of my new song “Jumpin” .

Budgie — Full Moon

Bought this record shopping a few years back in London (wish I could remember which shop, sorry!). Budgie is a talented beat maker and continues to make good stuff, check him out.

Booker T & The MGs – Sunny Monday

Beautiful instrumental that belongs in a Wes Anderson or Tarantino movie. The band is as tight as they come; they do their thing perfectly and play with joy and passion. I love playing along with this one on piano.

Orlando Riva Sound – Moon Boots

People always ask me where I got my name. The answer is simple: from this song. It has great vibes and it’s hard not to love it.
