The University of Hertfordshire has won ‘Best Educational Institution’ at the TIGA Games Industry Awards 2019, the UK’s most prestigious celebration of the video games industry.

Held at The Natural History Museum on 7 November, the University of Hertfordshire beat 10 other institutions competing in this category. The awards, organised by TIGA*, uniquely recognises excellence in games development, business and education and celebrates the achievements of both small and large games development studios.

Neil Gallagher, Senior Lecturer of 3D Animation Games Art at the University of Hertfordshire, said: “We are delighted to have won such a coveted award. It’s a fantastic achievement and an amazing experience for our students. To be handed this great accolade by Dr Richard Wilson OBE (who was recognised for services to the UK video game industry) is testament to the years of hard work building a course which has gained so much recognition.”

“Dr Wilson paid tribute to the importance of having solid grass roots institutions in the UK and commented that it was a privilege to have the best games course in the world with the University, given that we also won at The Rookies Awards this year. Coupled with the TIGA award, 2019 has been a phenomenal year for the University.”

Over the past few years, the University of Hertfordshire has been driving computer games graphics in new directions on the 3D Games Art & Design course, which has helped it to gain recognition from industry.
