Unai Emery reveals thoughts on Aaron Ramsey’s Juventus switch and plans for next move in management

Unai Emery has been out of work since leaving Arsenal at the end of November, but that’s through choice rather than through a lack of offers, the Spanish boss says.

The former Sevilla boss has coached in three of Europe’s top five leagues, including a spell with Paris Saint-Germain, and says he is open to continuing his education in another top flight entirely if the right project comes along.

He has been linked with a move to Serie A, as well as with clubs back in LaLiga, though the former in particular appears to be of interest to the 48-year-old.

“I coached for 16 years in a row, so decided to take a little rest to prepare for the project that most inspires me,” he told TuttoJuve.

“I won’t rule out any country: England, France, Spain, where I already worked, or Italy, which I’ve never worked in before.

“I did have some contact with several Italian clubs, but for one reason or another, it was not possible to work here. I am open to everything and keep a very close eye on Serie A.

“Out of respect and fairness, I will not name the clubs who contacted me in previous years.”

Before Emery left the Emirates Stadium, he worked with Aaron Ramsey, with the Welshman opting to move away from Arsenal to Juventus in the summer.

His former boss says it was a brave switch to make and he remains confident the midfielder will make a success of the move.

“They were decisions made by the club and the player himself. The player decided to leave and he joined a big club. Aaron will be very important for Juventus, as he shares their ambition.

“I complimented him on his choice, because he picked a club where he can win a lot. Juventus is a big team in European and world football.

“After so many years in England, this is a great challenge for him.” Ramsey has played 15 games in Serie A this season for his new club.
