Una Healy reveals she 'was burning alive while going through hell' with Ben Foden

The Saturdays singer Una Healy has opened up about her marriage to Ben Foden, describing it as ‘going through hell’.

The 37-year-old revealed that the pair had become ‘strangers’ by the end of their time together and Ben cheating on her just “sped up the process” of their split.

Una spoke frankly with Ryan Tubridy on the Late Late Show in Ireland and said while she didn’t want to “dish the dirt” on Foden, she wanted to reveal what it was like inside their six year marriage.

Having written a song about their break-up, Una said: “You meet someone, they’re a stranger, you spend a lot of time with them, they weren’t your forever person. They become a stranger again.

She added: “I suppose the story is there… I’m not here to dish the dirt and start saying anything bad about my ex husband Ben, but the song is clearly about him and how he’s like a stranger now.

“It’s sad but it’s kind of beautifully sad.”

Despite it being a tough time in her life, Una said she had ‘no regrets’ about her marriage to rugby union star Foden.

Una and her children

Una said: “I’ve just been rebuilding my life as a single mum to my two little kids.

“I don’t regret ever meeting him because I never would have made those beautiful children if it wasn’t for him.

“I can never look back on it and say it was a mistake. It’s just that that part of the relationship is over.”

The pair have seven-year-old Aoife Belle and Tadhg, four, together and Una admits that it has been strained with Foden since he moved to New York.

Una revealed: “It’s difficult that he’s all the way over in New York at the minute.

“I went out there to kind of, as my mother said, assess the battleground.

“I said no way am I moving out there with two kids, it’s just not a place for children.

“New York is a very single, very career-driven place.

“So I decided not to go but it wasn’t until after I came back then that it was all revealed what was going on behind my back.”

Una’s new boyfriend David Breen shared a loved up snap

Una’s reaction was to go back home and decided to spend time with her mother in Thurles, so that she could process what had happened to her marriage.

She continued: “I think everybody assumed that I’d moved back with the kids but I just happened to be back anyway for a few days and I took refuge in the house down in Thurles and my mammy had to answer the door a reporter that came.

“There was a pap in a car across the road and she was like ‘Aah! Not now!'”

Una, who is from Tipperary, has entered a “new phase” in her life after meeting former Limerick hurler David Breen.

“I shopped local,” she joked about her new boyfriend.

“David is from Limerick which is about 45 minutes from Thurles, and over in England we live 45 minutes from each other as well.”

Una opened up about her time with Foden

In one last damning indictment of her time with Foden, Una concluded: “If you’re going through hell, keep going.

“You can see the light at the end of the tunnel. You feel like you’re burning alive a bit but you’re on the right road.”
