She used the post as a chance to her ‘sista-hood’ or the ‘amazing girlfriends who have kept me upright over these past two years and particularly during a few, very dark episodes.’

‘I genuinely couldn’t find my way forward; couldn’t raise my head and couldn’t make sense of life’ during those tough periods.

‘Your unwavering support; your kind words; your truths and your sharing has helped get me here. And now I’m ready to put my dancing shoes on.

‘I love you more than I hate today’s vile hangover (a whole bottle of rum is too much apparently – who knew?)’ she said, tagging the friends that have helped her.

‘I’m now heading downstairs to carry on cooking. Or puke. It’s one or the other. Have a lovely Christmas, everyone.’ she signed off.

She has spoken candidly about her insecurities during their union, admitting she felt ‘repulsive’ during their sexless marriage.

The broadcaster admitted earlier this month that  she became ‘quite insecure’ as a result.

She told Metro : ‘It had a really detrimental effect on me. I started disliking myself; my body; I felt repulsive and started shutting myself off physically and psychologically.

‘I became quite insecure about myself. I think intimacy is crucial. We all know that as relationships mature, sex is no longer the swinging from the chandeliers stuff and I’ve always found that settled stage quite reassuring.

‘But there has to be some intimacy in a relationship in order to sustain it.’

And when it comes to a new romance, Ulrika added that she is looking for ‘a lot of laughs’ as well as ‘intimacy’ and ‘fun’.

Ulrika and Brian, who is believed to be 50, tied the knot in 2008 and share one son, Malcolm, 10. They began their relationship in 2006.

In 2014, Brian also adopted her daughter Bo, now 18, from the presenter’s relationship with German hotel boss Markus Kempen.

Ulrika has two other children, Cameron, 24, from her marriage to John Turnbull (1990-1995) and Martha, 14, from her union with Lance Gerrard-Wright, (2003-2005).
